Our Beloved Producer
Adrienne Gruben left Texas to study Spanish literature in Santa Cruz, CA. After being hired by a Japanese production company in the summer in Santa Cruz to cast Spanish speaking extras, she moved to Los Angeles to continue working in production. Her affinity for Japanese culture led her to production manage for an LA based production company for nearly four years. Instead of her early production education reflecting events in The Player, Gruben spent years being the only native English speaker in a company where Kabuki teachers, Japanese pop stars and the guy who invented Tetris visited frequently. To let off steam after long production days, she and the Japanese crew would perform old Beverly Hills, 90210 scripts donated by friends in the style of Kabuki theatre. Not yet jaded, she left the company and toured the studios of Los Angeles, working in production for Hanna Barbera, in casting for Disney, development at Warner Bros., and post production at Castle Rock. Searching for more, she left to produce festival circuit favorites Olympia and Adam GoldbergÕs Scotch and Milk.
